Who are we?

We are three best friends who have been running Silence of the Jams at the Carlton Club in South Manchester since December 2018. During lockdown, we took the party online, creating kitchen disco playlists for the first 50 days of lockdown (available on Spotify). We also jumped on the Zoom bandwagon and held a three channel online charity party - giving a taste of the silent disco experience using breakout rooms and raising over £1000 for Bowel Cancer UK.

Since our emergence back into the real world, we have taken Silence of the Jams on tour, with two successful events at Rough Trade Nottingham, as well as a series of sold out parties at the Carlton Club. We also have some exciting collaborations in the pipeline for next year.

Why us?

Unlike other silent discos, we don’t restrict ourselves to a particular genre or era per channel. Instead we take a channel each, playing an eclectic array of musical styles and periods - we throw in pop, hip hop, disco, electro, emo, RnB, DnB, indie, new wave, nu metal, northern soul… Basically anything goes as long as you can dance to it! We meticulously plan our playlists to ensure that there is a good spread of different types and tempos of music across all three channels at any one time. And our signature mix of stupid-bastard-no-such-thing-as-guilty-pleasures party bangers guarantees that there is always something for everyone!

The most important feature of Silence of the Jams is that we seek to break down barriers between people who know each other and those who don’t, creating a super-inclusive environment where people can have fun without judgement. We bring a party atmosphere that gets everyone moving - whether they’re disco dancers, girl gangs, or lone wolves, by the end of the night, everyone is a friend on the dancefloor!

What people say…

"Deep dark lockdown winter I desperately wanted a night like this. When you are dancing away with no responsibilities. You see all the headphones flood another colour, so you hop channels to see what's happening. When folk don't realise how loudly they are singing to themselves, carefree and unashamed. The friendliness of a female led, lady friendly night. Instant BFFs when you've got the same tunes on. So appreciative to be out. Felt very safe with all the procedures in place. Bravo @silence_of_the_jams_mcr team. Cracking tunes again."

"My partner hasn't been out dancing in about 10000 years. He was absolutely raving about how safe (COVID and otherwise) it felt and how positive EVERY SINGLE person was. He was the one singing so loud you have to turn your headphones up."
